Tasmania has a team in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) for the first time in 30 years, and Hobart firm PWB Lawyers is part of the Tasmania Jewels’ first season as the sponsor of guard Brooke Basham.

Director Emma Daniels and Principal Solicitor Anna Lydon attended the Jewels’ inaugural season launch in Hobart on 11 September, where Anna presented Brooke with her playing jersey.

“Supporting Brooke and the Jewels is a chance to back women in sport and to be part of something that brings Tasmania together. Brooke’s commitment, and the team’s emphasis on hard work, are values we recognise.”

Brooke comes to the Jewels after five seasons with her hometown Adelaide Lightning, and her connection to Tasmania began well before she signed. Having followed the JackJumpers since they started, she has said that what Tasmania stands for resonates with her, and that she wanted to be part of the Jewels from the day the team was announced.

Head coach Claudia Brassard put it simply: “Brooke is someone who has worked hard for every opportunity she’s had, and that really matters to us.”

The Jewels open the WNBL season on Thursday 15 October against the Geelong Venom at MyState Bank Arena in Hobart, and play their first Launceston game at the Silverdome on Saturday 31 October against the Sydney Flames. Six home games are in Hobart and five in Launceston, so supporters at both ends of the state can see Brooke and the team on court.
